Sports fans can be part of the Olympic Games and follow the men’s and women’s Great Britain football teams at the Millennium Stadium during London 2012 with tickets on sale now.
London 2012 organisers announced today (Tuesday) that tickets are available now across all venues on a first come, first served basis at www.tickets.london2012.com and via telephone on 0844 847 2012.
Approximately 1.5 million football tickets are still available for Olympic football so there’s still chance to get your London 2012 tickets, with prices starting at £20 for adults and ‘pay your age’ prices for young people aged 16 and under.
The eyes of the world will be on Wales when the GB women’s team arrive for the very first event of the Olympic Games staged at the home of Welsh sport on 25th July, 2012 – two days ahead of the official Opening Ceremony in London.
The stadium will hold eleven games across the men’s and women’s tournaments including the prestigious men’s quarter-final on 4th August and the Bronze Medal match on 10th August.
Both the men’s and women’s Great Britain teams will play group matches in Cardiff; the men’s team, coached by Stuart Pearce, will play their final group game on 1st August and the women’s team, coached by Hope Powell, will be in Cardiff on 25th and 28th July.
“The Millennium Stadium is an excellent choice for sports fans wanting to support Team GB and be part of the greatest sporting show on earth which comes to Wales for the first time ever next year,” said Millennium Stadium General Manager Gerry Toms.
“Our city-centre stadium holds crowds of up to 74,500 per event and with organisers announcing special prices and larger availability across Olympic football events, I urge all sports fans get their tickets to see world-class football and be part of the London 2012 action in Wales.”
Previous Olympic Football tournaments have seen the likes of Lionel Messi, Xavi, Samuel Eto’o, Ronaldinho and Jose ‘Pep’ Guardiola become Olympic medallists.
The London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) CEO Paul Deighton commented: “The Olympic Football tournament features some of the world’s best young and up and coming players in the men’s game and the cream of the women’s game.
“As a football loving nation, bringing the Games to the whole of the UK allows everyone to share in the excitement while showing their support for Team GB. With ticket prices for adults starting at £20 and our great special prices for young people and those over 60, I am sure there is something for everyone”
