The Millennium Stadium will become a giant assault course for the high-octane Men’s Health magazine Survival of the Fittest event which kicks off in Cardiff on Sunday 4 October.

Cardiff is the first city to host the 10km running challenge interspersed with obstacle zones every kilometre before it heads to Nottingham and Edinburgh.

This year’s challenge will take on a tri-nations theme and an estimated 1500 competitors face a tough route, with the unique features of each host city woven into the route’s infrastructure.

The home of Welsh sport, the Millennium Stadium, has been identified as the highlight of the Cardiff route, where participants will enjoy a unique experience at the multi-event arena.

Venue sales manager at the Millennium Stadium, Alex Luff, said: “We’re thrilled to be involved in this exciting Men’s Health challenge and I’m confident the contestants signed up for the Cardiff event will be motivated by what’s in store for them at the Millennium Stadium.

“In its first year, the Stadium formed part of the route for a 10k race in support of Kidney Research and has since offered a host of support to various charitable runs within the city.

“Throughout its ten year history, the multi-event venue has become a top destination for high profile sports stars all over the world and we’re proud to be able to share this unique opportunity with hard-working competitors from all over Wales.”

The Cardiff race which starts and finishes at the Oval basin in Cardiff Bay will head through the Docks and the Barrage and pass through Hamadryad Park before reaching the Millennium Stadium where runners will undertake various challenges as well covering up to a kilometre of sprints up and down the stands.

Claire Matthews, marketing director for Men’s Health, comments: “Men’s Health readers are a pretty motivated bunch of active, “can-do” guys with a passion for making the most of themselves and their lives.

“We launched Survival of the Fittest to take the Men’s Health philosophy out of the pages of the magazine and website onto the streets of the UK. We want to promote the benefits of exercise and keeping a healthy body and mind and prove that you can have a ton of fun along the way.”

She said: “It’s also a great way for the team behind the award-winning magazine to keep in touch with its readers.”
