16th April 2021, 2:55 pm By Principality Stadium
Due to ongoing social distancing restrictions and uncertainty surrounding the return of large-scale events in Wales, the FIM, BSI and Principality Stadium have decided to cancel the 2021 Adrian Flux British FIM Speedway Grand Prix scheduled to take place on 17 July 2021.
“We are extremely disappointed to be cancelling the 2021 British FIM Speedway Grand Prix,” said Paul Bellamy, Senior Vice President of Motorsports Events at IMG.
“Our team has been working hard for many months to explore multiple options with the Welsh government and Principality Stadium in the hopes of being able to welcome riders and fans back to Cardiff in July. However, sadly due to ongoing uncertainty around social distancing and other event-related restrictions, we are not able to do so.
“We know how much this event means to fans and riders, and thank them for their ongoing understanding and support.”
Alex Luff, Principality Stadium Group Events Sales and Operations Manager, added: “We’ve enjoyed 19 years of extraordinary times with British FIM Speedway Grand Prix, the stadium’s longest-running third party event outside of International Rugby. The team is wonderful to work with and I share in their disappointment in announcing this year’s cancellation.
“Motorsport fans have visited us from all over the world for the last two decades; the dedication and enthusiasm for the sport that they bring will be greatly missed this year.”
