As the countdown continues for the first event of the Olympic Games on Monday 25 July at the Millennium Stadium, London 2012 organisers have announced the route for the Olympic Flame.
The streets along the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay can be viewed in full at https://www.olympic.org/news/london-2012-olympic-torch-relay, to celebrate the greatest sporting spectacle of 2012 which gets underway this summer.
The official website gives street-by-street details so that sports fans all over the UK can find out when it will be travelling along their nearest high street, through their town square or past their local village shop.
Sebastian Coe, Chair of LOCOG added: ‘Today we bring the Olympic Torch Relay to life. The Flame symbolises the Olympic spirit and its journey around the UK will bring the excitement of the Games to our streets.’
An average of 115 Torchbearers a day will carry the Olympic Flame during its 8,000 mile journey around the UK before it arrives at the Olympic Stadium on 27 July 2012 for the lighting of the cauldron at the Opening Ceremony, signifying the official start of the London 2012 Olympic Games.
During the Games, the Millennium Stadium will host eleven Olympic football matches including the prestigious men’s quarter-final and Bronze Medal between July 25th and August 10th. The stadium will also play host to both the women’s and men’s GB teams.
