More tickets for the London 2012 Olympic Football matches at the Millennium Stadium will go on public sale from 11am today (Wednesday).

Cardiff’s city-centre venue will host 11 football games between 25 July and 10 August and fans can soon book their place at www.tickets.london2012.com.

The home of Welsh sport will welcome Team GB Women’s team for the first event of the Olympic Games against New Zealand on July 25, while in the Men’s tournament highlights include Great Britain versus Uruguay on August 1.

Football fans will also have the opportunity to watch Brazil, seeded as the “all-time top Olympic performer”, play Egypt in Cardiff on July 26.

Tickets start at £20 for adults, with special prices available for people under 16 and over 60 at many matches. ‘Pay your age’ prices are available for those under 16 and tickets for people aged 60 or over will be priced at £16. Tickets will be sold on a first come, first served basis.

Millennium Stadium General Manager Gerry Toms said: “Tickets to watch Olympic football at the Millennium Stadium will go on public sale today and this is fantastic news for the football fans that have missed out during the previous phases of ticket sales.

“With great availability on tickets from £20 for adults and special prices for children, I’m sure sports fans in Wales will want to book their place to be part of the first ever Olympic Games in Wales.”

The Olympic Football Tournament will take place at six iconic venues including the Millennium Stadium across the UK and London 2012 organisers have announced good availability across the football venues.

Customers can purchase between 20 and 30 tickets for the Olympic football matches to encourage groups to attend and LOCOG Commercial Director Chris Townsend is expecting a surge in activity on the official website when tickets are made available.

He said: “Our priority has been to get as many people who missed out in the sales process last year to the Games. We have delivered on our promise and now another 150,000 people have successfully purchased up to 4 tickets each.  We are now putting the remaining tickets back on general sale.

“Wednesday’s sale is a live sale, and, like other high demand events including pop concerts, we expect the website to be very busy and customers may well be held in queues for over 30 minutes at peak times.”
