Produced by Whisper Cymru, the one-hour documentary, set to air on New Year’s Eve at 6:30 PM, showcases the tireless efforts of the staff, from event managers and stewards to security personnel and hospitality teams, who work together to transform the stadium for each major event.

Whether it’s a major international rugby tournament such as the Guinness Six Nations or concerts by world-renowned artists all events are featured – the WRU-owned Principality Stadium was visited by Taylor Swift, P!NK, Bruce Springsteen and Billy Joel this year alone and hosted a motorsport event which saw 300 truckloads of Welsh dirt delivered when Monster Jam roared back into town.

Filmed over the past year, the documentary offers viewers exclusive access to the inner workings of the stadium, revealing the passion, dedication, and teamwork that ensures every event runs smoothly and highlights those behind the scenes who have made Principality Stadium a symbol of excellence and a must-play, must-visit venue to stars from across the world.

Through interviews with key figures and behind-the-scenes footage, the documentary takes you from the tunnel to the control room with an access all areas pass.

“Principality Stadium has been the backdrop to so many unforgettable moments, and we’re excited to share a glimpse of what goes on behind the scenes to make these moments possible,” said Mark Williams, Principality Stadium Manager.

“This documentary is not only a celebration of the stadium’s rich history, but also a tribute to the incredible individuals who make every event a success.”

Principality Stadium, which is owned and operated by the WRU, opened in 1999 and has become a world-leading venue, bringing together the best in sport, entertainment and Welsh culture.

The first stadium in the UK to have a retractable roof, its chameleon-like nature has help build its reputation as a global leader for an array of multi-facetted events and shows.

As the venue celebrates its 25th anniversary, the documentary also serves as a tribute to the rich history of the stadium and the people who have contributed to its ongoing legacy.

Abi Tierney, WRU CEO says, “For the past 25 years, Principality Stadium has witnessed some of the best artists and global events from the world of sports and entertainment but it’s so much more than just a building. It’s such a success story for Wales and a great source of pride for the nation.

“This documentary gives a unique and personal insight into the dedication of our passionate and caring staff, the people who make Principality Stadium one of the most iconic venues in the world as well as an idyllic home for Welsh rugby. We’re thrilled to be able to share these stories with viewers on New Year’s Eve.”

Carys Owens, Managing Director, Whisper Cymru, says, “We have had the privilege of working at the Principality Stadium for over 8 years, capturing some of the most iconic and unforgettable moments in both sports and music.

“Being granted access to film alongside such hardworking and dedicated professionals has been an incredible experience. Reflecting on the past 25 years highlights just how fortunate we are to have a gem like the Principality Stadium in Wales.

“We hope the audience enjoys the exclusive all-access pass and relishes the nostalgic moments of sport and music as they unfold on the BBC over the Christmas period.”
