A full road closure will be in place in Cardiff City Centre from 12.30pm until 5.30pm on March 19 for Wales Vs Italy at the Principality Stadium.

With 74,000 spectators expected to travel in to Cardiff for the match, everyone is being advised that enhanced security measures will be in operation to enter the stadium. If you bring a bag, expect to be searched and be advised that this may delay you from getting into the stadium on time.

Given the additional security arrangements, the Authorities are advising spectators to leave plenty of time for your journey to get into the city centre and the stadium.

Arriva Trains Wales are advising customers that there will be a different queuing system in place for this match (attached) and all customers are being advised to head towards the station at a reasonable time, as the later trains are less frequent and are usually very busy.

Advice for those travelling by car

Full road closure from 12.30pm until 5.30pm:

  • Kingsway from its junction with North Road to its junction with Duke Street.
  • Cowbridge Road East from its junction with Cathedral Road to its junction with Westgate Street.
  • Tudor Street from its junction with Clare Road to its junction with Wood Street (access for residents & traders will be permitted via Fitzhammon Embankment)
  • Plantagenet Street and Beauchamp Street from their junctions with Despenser Place to their junctions with Tudor Street (access for residents & traders will be permitted)
  • Saunders Road from its junction with St Mary Street
  • Customhouse Street throughout its length (access to private car parks will be permitted)
  • Penarth Road from its junction with Saunders Road to the entrance leading into the rear of the Central Train Station.
  • The following roads will be closed in their entirety: – Duke Street, Castle St, High Street, St Mary Street, Caroline Street, Wood Street, Central Square, Westgate Street, Quay Street, Guildhall Place, Golate, Park Street, Havelock Street and Scott Road.

Match-Day Parking – Cars, camper vans and coaches

Civic Centre: Access to the Civic Centre will be controlled, with access allowed only for match-day parking, loading and access to private car parks. Roads affected include, King Edward VII Avenue, Museum Avenue, City Hall Road, College Road and Gorsedd Gardens Road.

All coaches are advised that they have to park in the Civic Centre (£20 a coach) and NOT in Sophia Gardens.

Match day parking for cars can also be pre-booked online for £12 a car or £15 to be paid on the day.

Civic Centre overnight parking is also available for £20 a car/camper van (pre-book) or £25 payable on the day.

Disabled Parking is available at Sophia Gardens, free of charge to Blue Badge Holders. Disabled Parking is also available by various private car park operators; please check individual websites for availability.

Shopping Parking – Shoppers are advised to make use of car parks within the city centre area, which include:

St David’s Shopping Centre
John Lewis
Capitol Shopping Centre
NCP – Adam Street, Dumfries Place and Greyfriars Road

Shopping Park & Ride will also run from County Hall from 9am until 6pm. Cost £3 per car.

All Park & Ride customers are advised to follow the signage to the available site at the time of their arrival.

The car parks will have a staff presence from 9am, will open at 9 30am, with the first bus leaving at 9 30pm. The last bus will leave the pick-up point at 9pm, with the car park closing at 9 30pm.

Advice for those travelling by train

Trains – There will be a queuing system at Cardiff Central Train Station for this event, please visit www.arrivatrainswales.co.uk/principalitystadium/ for more information. We strongly advise you identify your queuing lane for your return journey before you attend the event. Queen Street Station will close shortly before the end of the event, all trains will depart from Cardiff Central Train Station.

Advice for those travelling by coach

National Express – National Express coaches will use Sophia Gardens as usual. Sophia Gardens can only be used for match day parking.

Buses – will be diverted out of the central city centre bus stops. Bus displaced from stops within the closure will relocate to either Churchill Way for the East. Greyfriars Road for the North or Tudor Street for the West. Please visit www.cardiffbus.co.uk for more information.

Taxis – Night-time closures of Lower St Mary Street and Greyfriars Road will be in effect from 8pm until 4am and taxi marshals will be in place.
St Mary Street Taxi Rank (Outside House of Fraser) will be closed from 2.30pm and re-open from 8pm. Mill Lane Taxi Rank is not affected and open throughout the day and night
