The band today confirmed they will play the Stadium on Friday October 19th to end the European leg of their tour.

The concert is one of only four UK dates for the Police who have reformed for their first world tour in 23 years.

There has been huge interest from fans in the potential concert venues since the tour was announced last month when the band reformed to play at the 49th Annual Grammy Awards ceremony.

Tickets for the UK leg of the tour including Cardiff range between £40 and £90 (plus applicable service fees) and will go on sale at 9am on Friday March 9th with a six-ticket limit per person for the Cardiff concert.

After bursting onto the music scene in 1977, the Police dominated the pop charts worldwide with five number 1 albums and a succession of top 10 hit singles. Many of their songs such as Message in a Bottle, Every Breath You Take and Walking on the Moon have become classics.

WRU Group Chief Executive Roger Lewis said, “This is fantastic news for the Millennium Stadium and for Wales. It again confirms the status of the Stadium as a venue which can attract the world’s best bands to our capital city.

“The crowd capacity of the venue, its accessibility in the heart of the city and the famous closing roof are all factors which make the Stadium work so well.

“Anyone who saw the Rolling Stones, Madonna or Take That at the Millennium Stadium last year will know how well it transforms from being a sports arena into a world class concert venue.

“The Police concert is one of a number we are hoping to announce this year and it really is great news for Wales.”

The Police will be in Cardiff soon after Rod Stewart plays the Millennium Stadium in July. The Police will open their European Tour in Stockholm at the end of August following sell-out dates in north America.

Arthur Fogel, Live Nation Chairman of Global Music said: “The anticipation and excitement to see The Police is overwhelming. We are absolutely thrilled to be bringing the band to fans new and old.”

The Police World Tour is produced by The Next Adventure, a Live Nation Company in association with RZO Entertainment, Inc.

A portion of the proceeds from the tour will be donated to WaterAid, an international NGO founded in 1981 and dedicated to reducing poverty by improving access to safe water, sanitation, and hygiene education.
